Barbara Close is the Founder of Naturopathica, a holistic beauty brand offering skin, body and herbal remedies rooted in naturopathic medicine to support overall well-being. From the beginning, Barbara’s mission has been to educate on the benefits of a holistic approach to skin health, reinforcing that the skin mircrors what is going on inside of the body.

“My goal at Naturopathica has been to educate people about natural health and its connection to beauty. I define beauty as an expression of living an authentic, healthy, and vibrant life that celebrates one’s own unique being.” – Barbara Close

A lifelong practitioner of the healing arts, Barbara has a Master’s degree in Therapeutic Herbalism and credentials in esthetics, advanced massage and aromatherapy. She is regarded as a pioneer in the wellness movement and draws on her expertise to illustrate the connection between skin health and well-being. An early adapter and now leader in holistic skin care, Barbara created Naturopathica as a way to encourage people to be active participants in their own skin health. The Naturopathica approach combines nutrition, herbal medicine and wellness rituals with clean and effective products for an immersive wellness experience.

Inspired by childhood summers with her Aunt in France, Barbara embarked on a lifelong exploration of natural healing from an early age. Her passion and knowledge were tested when her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. After witnessing the efficacy of remedies like Lemon Balm tea to ease anxiety, Calendula cream to soothe dry skin, and Peppermint aromatherapy to quell nausea, Barbara was determined to create a place where people could improve their own well-being. She opened Naturopathica Healing Arts Center & Spa in East Hampton in 1995, and a brand was born. Today, Naturopathica has a robust collection of skin and well-being products, two celebrated flagship spas in Manhattan and East Hampton, and an impressive network of more than 400 of the world’s best Spa Partners including destinations like Canyon Ranch, The Lake Austin Spa Resort, The Spa at Terranea and Heyday Spas in New York City.

Shannon VAUGHN , Founder, Pursoma +

I am not a sage, a doctor or an expert of any particular subject. I am a layperson, a woman, an entrepreneur, and a mother and have learned that it’s not easy to take care of yourself without being armed with good advice, and the tools to do so.

In 2011 I was faced with two significant health crises; the possibility of not having children and an advanced case of PTSD due to a traumatic event. I dismissed the ideas of surgery or a lifetime of medication and instead sought out alternative holistic healing modalities.

I studied the science of detox, Ayurvedic medicine, and yogic philosophy at prestigious alternative medicine institutions around the world, including the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Massachusetts, the Natalia Rose Institute in New York City, and the Vedic Foundation of the Himalayas in India. I mentored under Dr.Devra Davis, founder of the Environmental Health Trust, focused on EMF (electro-magnetic frequency) and public health. Digital wellness became a health movement I implemented that allowed me to find a healthy balance with technology.

I became compelled to share my healing experiences so that others too, could redefine the practice of self-care for themselves, not as an indulgence, but as a birthright.

We all need time to unwind and decompress from our hectic lives but few of us feel enabled to give that to ourselves. Through my own journey, I've come to deeply believe in the benefits of wellness via detoxification. In 2014, I set out to source the purest and most potent detox beauty ingredients in the world, to formulate them with the most rigorous research, and to deliver them as lifestyle-integrated rituals in the most appealing and accessible forms for modern living...and with that purpose, Pursoma was born.

“pur” (French for “pure”) ✚ “soma” (an Ayurvedic term meaning transformation of self) ⚌
The act of purifying the body and transitioning to an exceptional state of being

No one has the secret to striking the perfect work-life-spirit balance, but I try to abide by three key principles to living well in the modern world:

DETOX and a regular practice of resetting the body NATURE finding a connection to the outdoor world without a digital filter RETOX the ability to relax and have fun knowing you have the tools to rebuild the next day.

It is with these three tools that I believe you can lead a truly well life.
